a soft bird Phenomenal composition and writing. The brass adds a lot more heaviness to the songs, creating an immersive and expansive soundscape.
It reminds me of all the good things Moonsorrow did, smashed together into one amazing record. I highly recommend Finsterforst if you like Moonsorrow's work. Similar in quality, if not much better.
My only gripe with this album is that it's not available on vinyl. Favorite track: Zerfall.

Zerfall sees Black Forest Metal act FINSTERFORST return to the serious and elegiac soundscapes of classics as Mach Dich Frei (2015) on their fifth studio album, instead of the stylistic intermezzo of predecessor #YOLO (2016). The Germans` emotional brand of post black metal gives vent to endless rage with pounding riffs and astonishing orchestral elements (”Wut”) – and then flows into the somber choirs of the title track. The centerpiece and culmination of it all has to be the 36-minute long (!) “Ecce Homo” though that unfolds into a majestic post metal journey crowning FINSTERFORST’s songwriting career so far. A complex and mature piece of art that will mesmerize old and new fans alike.

I'd say Havukruunu is the rightful holder of the Crown and the mantle of Quorthon. Epic choirs, vikingesque themes and tales from the other times, of the Finnish paganism back in the days before our ancestors were brought to the cross and forced to kneel while feeling the bloody sword of saviour on their throats made to kiss the hand of murderers who burnt thousands, tore down our holy places and took our holy days.
